Welcome Back Parents & Students to School Year 2018-19

Closed Campus Policy

It is our goal to provide the best possible safe environment for our students and staff. After consulting with agencies such as the Compton School Police, the Local Sheriff Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Red Cross, it has been recommended that in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff Anderson MUST become a closed campus.

What does that mean?  Per the agencies recommendation:

  1. One point of entry (one gate) only to the campus
  2. No parents or visitors on campus without office clearance
  3. No visitors to classrooms without office clearance

Therefore, as stated in the letter sent home to all parents in the summer, the letter and notice posted on our social media sites, and the notice sent home on August 14, 2018, beginning Monday, August 20, 2018, all students will be dropped off by parents to the main front gate/entrance on 130th Street, where they will be welcomed by an Anderson Staff member.

Students will proceed to the black top line assignments where they will be picked up by their respective teachers. There will also be staff members supervising the area until ALL students are picked up to go to classrooms. The TK/kinder, 1st & 2nd first grade students will practice the first week with their teachers how to walk from the gate to the lines

The first day of school Thursday, August 16, 2018 and the second day of school August 17, 2018, the parents will be allowed on campus in the morning and in the afternoon so that they can meet the teacher and walk the students to their line or show students which gate they will pick them up.

Dismissal Procedures/Parent Responsibilities

There will be 3 dismissal points/gates DEPENDING ON THE GRADE LEVEL. Teachers will walk the students to those gates and dismiss them.

Parents will go to those gates and wait for the students. Most important!! Make arrangements with your child so that you and him/her know where you will meet them outside the gate.

These are the pickup/dismissal points for our students:

TK, Kinder , 1stGrade, SDC K-2     Side gate facing 130thStreet (gate close to the big grass area facing 130th street)

2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade, SDC 3rd-5th          Main gate-entrance gate facing 130th St.

5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Grade                       Gate by the Parking lot facing 130th street

Important Notice:

  1. Students that attend the ASES Program will be dismissed from classrooms

to the cafeteria. They must meet their leaders in the cafeteria.

  1. Older siblings picking up little brothers/sisters will be dismissed to the pickup area where the little ones are being dismissed. Let your older child know that they must inform their teacher that they need to be dismissed first so that they can meet/ pick up their siblings.
  1. TK/Kinder and 1st Grade students not picked up by the gate from their teachers in a timely manner will be escorted to the benches outside the office. Parents will need to come in the main office to pick up the student

We appreciate the support of our Anderson extended partners, parents and community in making our school a safe place for kids.

If you need clarification on our Closed Campus family, please e-mail your child’s teacher or call our office (310) 898-6110.

Thank you for your support.

(310) 898-6110.

Gracias por su apoyo. Personal de Anderson

Principal's Welcome

Marian Anderson Elementary is making great strides in the Compton Unified School District. The priority of every teacher at the school is to create an effective learning environment. Our quest is to provide a safe, disciplined, caring, and stimulating learning environment where our students will develop a life-long, positive attitude toward learning. We are proud of our success in strengthening our teacher-parent-student partnerships. Studies show that parent involvement is essential to the academic and social achievement of all students. We continue to actively encourage increased parent participation for TEAM Anderson.
